Bont Heat Molding your Skates

IMPORTANT Fiberglass boots are heat molded differently from carbon or carbon composite boots. Please scroll down to the relevant section that applies to your boot type. Fiberglass boots DO NOT go in the oven.

Bont boots are the most heat moldable boots available. Bont's proprietary resin has been developed and perfected over 45 years to be an extremely stiff resin that becomes pliable at relatively low temperatures. Unlike other skates which are moldable only in select locations, all Bont boots are able to be molded over the entire base providing skaters not only with the most anatomically designed boot on the market today but also with the ability to fine-tune the fit of the entire boot to give a customized fit.

You may have tried heat molding other brands of boots and found that you needed to increase the temperature to try to get it to mold. That is not the case with your Bont boots and we urge you to start with low temperatures.

The base of the boot is moldable which means all stiff areas of the boot can be molded in a standard oven or hair dryer. This is unlike most boots on the market which have uppers that are moldable. You do not need to mold your boots if they fit you straight out of the box. Please scroll down to the relevant heat molding instructions for your boots.

Heat Molding FAQ: If the boots take 20 minutes to mold at 85°C, can I put them in the oven for 10 minutes at 170°C? The answer is no. Please stick to the guidelines and your boots will not be damaged.

HOW TO HEAT MOLD YOUR CARBON FIBER OR CARBON COMPOSITE INLINE BOOTS

Firstly, remove the wheels, frame, and mounting boots from your Bont boots. If your insoles are removable, take them out as well. Additionally, if you have waxed or shimmer laces, it's advisable to remove them.

Pre-heat your oven to 85°C/185°F. It is highly recommended to use an external thermometer to ensure accuracy, as some oven thermostats may be unreliable.

Once the oven reaches the desired temperature, place your Bont boots inside for approximately 15-20 minutes. Please note that exceeding higher temperatures than recommended will not only void your warranty but also potentially damage your boots.

After 15 minutes, check if the boots are ready by gently squeezing the back of the boot. If the resin has become soft, your boots are ready for molding. However, if they are not yet pliable, put them back into the oven and continue heating until the carbon softens. Remember to check the boots every 5 minutes to avoid overheating.

Caution: Do not place your feet in the hot boots as you may burn your feet.

Allow the boots to cool down slightly, and check the temperature with your hand to ensure it is safe to handle.

Next, tighten the straps and buckles of your boots, and stand in them with your knees slightly bent.

Do not lift your heels off the ground or walk in the boots when they are hot. The carbon material is not designed to withstand these actions while heated, as it may lead to cracks or damage.

Allow approximately 5-10 minutes for the boots to cool on your feet, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit.

If you have any lumps or bunions on your feet or areas causing discomfort while the boot is still warm, you can use the round end of a blunt object to press out any part of the boot.

Congratulations! Your heat molding is now complete. Remember, you can heat mold the boots as many times as you like.

HOW TO HEAT MOLD YOUR CARBON ROLLER SKATE BOOTS

Boot models include: Carbon Quadstar, Hybrid Carbon & Racer Carbon

Firstly, remove the wheels, plate, and mounting boots from your Bont boots. If your insoles are removable, take them out as well. Additionally, if you have waxed or shimmer laces, it's advisable to remove them.

Pre-heat your oven to 85°C/185°F. It is highly recommended to use an external thermometer to ensure accuracy, as some oven thermostats may be unreliable.

HOW TO HEAT MOLD YOUR FIBERGLASS ROLLER SKATE BOOTS

Boot models include: Prostar, Parkstar, standard Hybrid or Hybrid Fiberglass, standard Racer, and old model fiberglass Quadstar

Firstly, remove your insoles if they are removable.

Next, turn your hair dryer onto the highest setting. Hold the dryer and gently move it around the areas you need to heat mold.
After a few minutes of heating, you'll notice that your boot starts to go soft. Continue to use the hair dryer for 5 minutes until the boot becomes very soft and moldable.

If the boot isn't soft enough after 5 minutes, don't worry. Simply use the hair dryer again, checking the boot at minute intervals until it reaches the desired softness and moldability.

Caution: Do not place your feet in the hot boots as you may burn your feet.

Check the temperature of your boot with your hand to ensure it is safe to handle.

If you have any lumps or bunions on your feet or areas causing discomfort while the boot is still warm, you can use the round end of a blunt object to press out any part of the boot.

Next, place your feet in the boots, lace them up, and hold the heel tightly until the boot cools.

Congratulations! Your heat molding is now complete. Remember, you can heat mold the boots as many times as you like.
